What are San Marzano Tomatoes? Why San Marzano Tomatoes?

From Wikipedia:

San Marzano tomatoes, a variety of plum tomatoes, are considered by many chefs to be the best sauce tomatoes in the world. The story goes that the first seed of the San Marzano tomato came to Campania in 1770, as a gift from the Kingdom of Peru to the Kingdom of Naples, and that it was planted in the area that corresponds to the present commune of San Marzano. They come from a small town of the same name near Naples, Italy, and were first grown in volcanic soil in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius. The volcanic soil is believed to act as a filter for water impurities. Compared to the Roma Tomatoes with which most people are familiar, Marzano tomatoes are thinner and pointier in shape. The flesh is much thicker with fewer seeds, and the taste is much stronger, more sweet and less acidic. Many people describe the taste as bittersweet, like high-quality chocolate. Because of their high quality and origins near Naples, San Marzano tomatoes have been designated as the only tomatoes that can be used for Vera Pizza Napoletana (True Neapolitan Pizza)

This oil has won many awards, but none are as impressive as the approval of my family. Gail, Natalia and I truly love this oil and can vouch for its quality.

The Asaro family has been producing this wonderful liquid gold in Partanna, Sicily (Italy) since 1916. It has won 2 Gold Medals & 1 Best of Class at L.A. County Fair.

This extra virgin mono-varietal olive oil is only made with "Nocellara del Belice" olives, from the province of Trapani, Sicily. The Nocellara del Belice gives it a very rich flavor profile, with notes of artichokes & almonds and a peppery finish.

The cute little cans are decorated with a colorful scenery of Sicily and showcasing the cartina al' Siciliana. Its slow-pour spout is a great feature to this beautiful little package.

The Asaro Family only produces this filtered extra virgin olive oil, in October. Its very low acidity (typically around 0.3%) and while a very versatile oil, its quality becomes very evident when used for dipping and finishing.

What a great way to give the gift of bread. Here's a picture of my recent Panettone.

Panettone! Originally created in Milian, and now shared the world over during Christmastime. My family used to make panettone in a coffee can and give it to friends; but I think these professional forms are a little bit nicer.

No pan needed, self-standing (but I use a cookie sheet under them to diffuse the heat). They are grease and temperature resistant from -40 degrees F to 450 degrees F.

Usable with convection ovens, microwaves and freezers. Each form measures 7 7/8" wide by 2 3/8" tall.

Red Star® Active Dry Yeast is a special culture of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The moisture is removed in such a way that cell viability and leavening power are retained. This results in a granular form of yeast designed to be rehydrated before use.

Red Star® Active Dry Yeast can be used in all yeast-leavened goods with either straight or sponge doughs. It is normally applied in a ratio of 40% to 50% of compressed yeast weight requirements, depending on the sugar content and type of dough.
